Military Options for Career Training


You have several options for gaining skills and experience in the U.S after high school graduation. You can go to a two-year college, a four-year college or university, enter an apprenticeship program, or serve in the military.

All of these are examples of postsecondary education or training.

Joining the military is an option that lets you serve your country, gain life and work skills, and earn money and/or receive financial aid for college. The U.S. military has five service branches. Their respective Guard and Reserve components have part-time service opportunities. The five branches are:

Each branch offers experiences and training in multiple career clusters. If you are in your teens or early 20s and choosing which postsecondary option is best for you, look at which branches of the military have career options that match your interests and goals.
