You have several options for gaining skills and experience in the U.S after high school graduation. You can go to a two-year college, a four-year college or university, enter an apprenticeship program, or serve in the military.
All of these are examples of postsecondary education or training.
Joining the military is an option that lets you serve your country, gain life and work skills, and earn money and/or receive financial aid for college. The U.S. military has five service branches. Their respective Guard and Reserve components have part-time service opportunities. The five branches are:
- Army (Army Reserve and Army National Guard)
- Marine Corps (Marine Corps Reserve)
- Navy (Navy Reserve)
- Air Force (Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard)
- Coast Guard (Coast Guard Reserve)
