Reading & Math Tutors Needed in Minnesota

Announcement from Minnesota Reading Corps & Math Corps:

One in four Minnesota third graders doesn’t read at grade level. The numbers are worse for eighth grade math proficiency.

Every year, Minnesota Reading Corps and Math Corps train hundreds of literacy and math tutors across the state, who in turn change thousands of worlds each school year. These tutors provide research-based instruction and guide struggling students toward becoming successful readers by third grade and algebra ready by eighth.

The Corps has opened the applications to become one of these tutors for the 2011-2012 program year. They are looking for individuals dedicated to improving their communities, building their own professional skills, and helping youth succeed in school and in life.

Please help spread the word to people who may be interested in a year of service by forwarding this blog post.

Tutors come from all walks of life. They are recent college graduates, parents, retired, educators and career-changers.

They are people like David, who said “Reading Corps afforded me the opportunity to get into a school, work with amazing kids, and feel like I’m really making a difference. I will never forget this year, the things I have learned, and the people I have met.”

  1. Great work Denise. I explains a lot of questions but Minnesota is not the only place where students what to learn reading maths. http://sarasotamathacademy.com is a place for student’s who are living in Florida to get good math tutoring service provided in both formats online as well as one on one .
