LearningWorks is a weekend and summer enrichment program that works with Minneapolis public school students to encourage them to excel in high school and prepare for college. I’ve volunteered with this program and they are doping great things to empower our middle school students to set and achieve their goals.
Full job description
Position: Executive Director for LearningWorks
Desired Experience and Relevant Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Minimum five years of related successful experience, especially in non-profit management
- Strong skills in leadership, vision, and ability to see big picture
- Strong communication, presentation and writing skills, including facility with social media
- Experience at LearningWorks, Breakthrough, Upward Bound, or similar program preferred
- Strong computer skills, including demonstrated experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and databases
- Experience working with diverse populations and in an urban school setting
- Proponent of “students teaching students” learning environment
- Close attention to detail, ability to plan ahead, and solid follow through
- High energy and flexibility
- Classroom teaching experience preferred
- Ability to motivate and work effectively with wide array of constituencies including middle school students, families, young educators, and administrators/contacts in both public and private schools
LearningWorks Mission:
- To offer a challenging academic enrichment program to a representative group of motivated, high potential middle school students from Minneapolis Public Schools, setting them on the path to college by preparing them to enter rigorous high school programs; and
- To draw talented high school and college students into the education field by engaging them in the art of teaching.
